CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

UPDATE AND SOME WAYS YOU CAN STILL HELP

Our Celebration of 100 years of Ministry and Service moves on to welcome the return of Norm and Lucille Dunkle on Sunday, April 10th.  Norm will preach at both services and, with Lucille, will be our guests of honor at the Fellowship Hour between services.  Plan to come – share some “old” stories, refresh some memories, greet Norm and Lucille, take some new photos, make it a special day.

While the plans are underway, we still need your help with a few things:

First, we have been gathering and organizing photographs of our past pastors.  One period for which we have only a few photos is from the time Dick and Myrna Sanford were here.  Please, look through your family photos to see if you have photographs from the time the Sanfords were here.  If you do, please let us borrow them for our display.  (For this, please contact Sally Ribnicky, 724-378-0890.)  Dick and Myrna will be here on July 8th so time is short.

Second, while Paul Sparrer was here, the confirmation classes made personal confirmation projects.  If you still have your confirmation project (or your child’s project), please lend it to us for display.  (For this, please contact Bill Crowley, 724-495-3439.)  We have heard from one family, but haven’t received the project yet.  If you have one, please contact Bill right away.

Third, on August 28th and September 11th we will have two catered luncheons as part of our celebration.  We’re hoping to more than fill the Fellowship Hall.  We would like to have tables set up outside under canopies.  We have checked with a couple of party suppliers and can get them there, but if you have such canopies, would you please lend them to us for these two days?  (For this, please contact Dave Wilson, 724-375-5287 or 724-375-7607.)  We haven’t heard from anyone yet.

And, Fourth, for the remembrance day of 100 years of weddings, we are planning a display of wedding gowns.  Several have already been promised.  If you have dress forms, please let us borrow them for this day – May 15th.  (For this, please contact Grace McClester, 1-330-932-0654.)  If you are willing to share your gown for display, you may drop it off at the church by contacting Lee Gourley (724-774-2094) or Geri Black (724-774-2366) who are willing to meet you there.

And we are looking for wedding photos from weddings performed at any of our buildings (Woodlawn, Franklin Avenue , and Brodhead Road ).  If you have some – or album that could be displayed – would you lend it to us for the day?

WEDDING PICTURES – The wedding display for the Centennial is scheduled for May 15th.  We need pictures – in a frame or not.  Please drop them off at the church office with a note as to who it is and the date and your name.  If you’d like for them to be picked up, please call Sally Ribnicky at 724-378-0890.  The deadline is April 15th.  We will take good care of them and return them to you.  They will be displayed in the Fellowship Hall.  Thank you.

The Centennial Committee has been busy for nearly a year.  Plans have been made.  And now what we need most of all is YOU!  Hope to see you at all our events.

OUR CHURCHES FAMILY TREE

We all remember learning the parts of a plant in science class.  Everyone knows that plants have roots, stems, leaves and flowers, fruit or seeds.

As part of the centennial celebration, we would like to begin creating our churches family tree.  We will remember past generations as our roots, recognize our stem, acknowledge our leaves and look forward to the flowers, fruit and seeds of our future.

This project will begin as a temporary structure as we begin with roots and stem and our church family adds leaves to represent our family members that built our church from the ground up.  If we as a church family add enough leaves to the tree, it is our hope that the tree will be reproduced as a permanent structure either as a sculpture or mural.

It’s like the song that we have sung as children and our children will continue to sing.  The leaf is on the branch, and the branch is on the limb, and the limb is on the tree, and the tree is in the ground, and the green grass grows all around, all around, and the green grass grows all around.
